Impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on rural agriculture in Vietnam

To assess the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on rural households and their access to the Government's support policy, the Institute of Policy and Strategy for Agriculture and Rural Development (IPSARD) has coordinated with the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to conduct a Survey on Impact Assessment of the COVID-19 pandemic on the livelihood of rural residents in 12 provinces.

Thereby, assessing the situation, preparing response measures, and making recommendations for relevant agencies to develop appropriate policies to support rural households’ response to the impact and consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The workshop "Impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on agriculture and rural development in Vietnam" is an opportunity for stakeholders to exchange, discuss, present findings and feedbacks on issues that need to be further focused, solved and proposed solutions to enhance resilience and promote self-reliance of agriculture and rural areas to overcome negative impacts and take advantage of opportunities from the COVID-19 pandemic.

The workshop has attracted participation of H.E. Mr. Cao Duc Phat – the Vice head of the Economic Party, the Central Party Office, H.E. Mr. Phung Duc Tien - Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development of Vietnam, H.E. Mr. Thomas Rath - Coordinator of Mekong Region Sub-region Office, IFAD Country Director in Vietnam, H.E. Mr. Eric Sidgwick – the Country Director of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in Vietnam, representatives from the Central Party and Government agencies, units of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, research institutes, international organizations, press agency media.
