of the United Nations (FAO) (1992),
“sustainable development in agriculture
is the conservation of soil, water, seed
and breeding without degrading the
environmental quality, technically
appropriate, economically feasible
and socially acceptable”. FAO (1995)
concretized sustainable agriculture and
rural development as a process to meet the

in terms of both quantity and quality,
of present and future generations while
providing a wide variety of agricultural
products;
- Provide permanent employment,
adequate income, and decent living and
working conditions for those engaged in
agricultural production;
- Maintain and enhance the
productive capacity of natural resources
