Research results in the field of biotechnology

Developing biotechnology towards the goal: Creating new varieties of plants and animals with high yield, quality and economic efficiency, serving the needs of economic restructuring, improving quality and competitiveness of commodity agricultural products, rapidly increasing the proportion of processed agricultural - forestry - fishery products for export; towards self-sufficiency in raw materials for the production of medicines; strengthening the application of biotechnology in the protection and remedy of environmental pollution.

1. Agricultural and forestry crops

- Gene technology:

Mastered the techniques of isolation, gene extraction, vector design and gene transfer techniques into target plants.

Ex-situ conservation is the most important and popular method of conserving plant genetic resources for food and agriculture purposes.

Successfully deciphered the indigenous rice group genome; isolated and studied the characteristics as well as potential applications of genes/promotors with economic value for the breeding of transgenic plants; mapped genes for tolerance, yield and quality traits; applied bioinformatics in the management and exploitation of genome database; mapped traits related to yield, quality and tolerance based on genome-wide information (Genomic Wide Association Study) to develop SNPs/gene-related molecular markers the above traits.

Mapped tolerance, yield and quality characteristics in other crops such as cotton, soybean, groundnut and others.

Developed procedures and instructions on propagation techniques for Acacia, eucalyptus species, DNA assessment procedures and DNA data for 80 research tree species.

- Molecular Biotechnology

Implemented the selection and breeding of agricultural and forestry plant varieties by the method of molecular markers.

Up to now, many agricultural products such as rice varieties carrying aromatic genes, insect/disease resistance, and biological products have been successfully applied in many major rice-growing regions such as the Mekong River Delta, the Red River Delta, and the Mekong Delta.

- Plant micropropagation

Implemented micropropagation of flowers, varieties of eucalyptus uro and hybrid acacia.

- Cell technology, enzyme technology

Researched, designed and manufactured equipment for producing red, green and cranberry by enzyme technology; used cell culture to propagate plants.

Up to now, cell propagation technology has been widely applied in localities to create mass seedlings of uniform quality, which has been popularized to the provincial level and some large nurseries.

2. Livestock

- Gene technology

Polymorphisms of candidate genes related to livestock production traits were analyzed.

In particular, some genes have been sequenced for disease resistance of domestic chicken breeds. Using microsatellite techniques, gene sequencing to analyze genetic diversity of livestock breeds to conserve and exploit indigenous genetic resources more efficiently.

Built a method to determine the blood relationship in the cow population based on the AND.

- Cell technology, enzyme-protein technology, microbiological technology

Successfully created pig embryos from somatic cells, perfected in-vitro and in-vivo embryo production technology, embryo transfer techniques, embryo division, and embryo production using graded sperm.

Researched and produced microbial products as raw materials and supplementary feeds for livestock.

3. Aquaculture

- Selection and production of aquaculture breeds

Has carried out tasks related to aquaculture breeding and storage, developed genetic resources with a focus on key aquaculture species.

Succeeded in culturing the cartilage cells.

Established the process of isolating and raising high-density biomass of algae to make natural food for aquaculture seed production.

- Conservation and exploitation of aquaculture genetic resources

Mastered the technology of frozen preservation of some aquaculture species.

- Environmental and aquaculture diseases management

Implemented research tasks on diseases and preparations for disease prevention and aquaculture environment.

Developed microbial product Bio Shrimp-RIA2 to be added to feed and water environment treatment.

4. Microorganism

Researched and produced preparations to prevent gray rot and anthracnose on vegetables and flowers,

5. Post-harvest technology

Currently, Vietnam has produced the active ingredient Aminoethoxyvinylglycine (AVG) applied in the near-harvest stage.

Eresson Company has successfully researched and applied technology and microbial fermentation equipment to produce fruit brandy (litchi, pineapple) on an industrial scale.

Biotechnology is also applied in the research and development of production processes for value-added products from available aquaculture raw materials.

Developed a kit to quickly detect toxins in aquaculture animals.
