Research results in the field of husbandry and veterinary sectors

Science and technology have promoted the development of large-scale animal husbandry and veterinary sectors. In general, although many limitations still exist, the livestock and veterinary sectors have made a strong transition from quantity to quality, from small-scale farming to large-scale industrial husbandry

1. Husbandry sectors

1.1. Husbandry selection and breeding

1.1.1. Conservation, exploitation, and development of genetic resources of indigenous livestock breeds

- The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has preserved 26 livestock genetic resources including 03 large cattle genetic resources, 08 small cattle genetic resources, 08 poultry genetic resources, 7 waterfowl genetic resources, 01 genetic material and 5 bee gene resources,

1.1.2. Pig selection and breeding

- Mastered the technology of pig breeding.

- Completed the technological process of raising 02 lines of female pigs TH12, TH21; 01 line of male pigs DC1 and commercial crosses between them.

- Researched and bred several specialized high-yield pig lines suitable for industrial farming in the North.

1.1.3. Poultry selection and breeding

- Two improved lines R1, R2 with delicious meat quality, high egg and meat yield have dominated most of the northern and central markets.

- Domestic chicken breeds have a survival rate of 90-95%.

- Two domestic chicken breeds have been selected to improve productivity over 4 generations.

- Five broiler lines (rooster lines TP4, LV4, VP2 and hen lines TP1, TP2) were selected to improve performance over 5 generations.

- From 04 lines of high-yielding RTP broilers (1, 2, 3 and 4), RTP broiler chickens were created.

- Three lines of coloured feathered chickens and cross-breeding combinations have been selected for industrial breeding.

- Three lines of free-range coloured feathered chickens VP-VCN/VP with high-quality yield.

- Three combinations of broodstock from three coloured feathered chicken lines VCN/TP-TN1, VCN/TP-TN2 and VCN/TP-TN3 were tested.

- Two lines of LV chickens have been selected and created through 4 generations of selection.

- From 04 lines of high yielding GT chickens, GT12 and GT34 parent chickens were created.

- 2 lines of egg-oriented chickens of the Egyptian breed were selected and created through 4 generations of selection.

- Researched to improve productivity and effectively use ”Hoa Lan” duck genetic resources in the Mekong Delta.

- 2 lines of sea ducks were able to breed in saline and brackish water conditions.

- 6 super meat geese lines V5, V7, VS, RT9, RT11 and R51 had the same yield as imported French geese.

- 4 ostrich lines BV1, BV2, BV3, BV4 have achieved high quality, good adaptability, and low feed consumption.

1.1.4. Ruminants and other livestock selection and breeding

- Boer-VCN goat breed has a high yield.

- Cross-breeding 25% Cabadin horse with Westfale and Oldenbger horse to make racehorse for sport and tourism.

- Developed the gene pool within the subspecies Apis cerana and the subspecies Apis cerana indica.

1.2. Reproductive technology

- Successfully studied embryo freezing process in vivo.

- Researched and successfully produced buffalo semen, goat semen, horse semen, frozen pig semen in the form of straw.

- Successfully studied in vitro fertilization and embryo sex determination.

- Successfully researched and implemented in vitro fertilization in cows and pigs.

- Successfully researched embryo transfer in pigs, helping to conserve livestock genetic resources more effectively.

1.3. Nutrition and technical packages for husbandry

- Researched on building appropriate levels of protein and energy in the nutritional diet of domestic chicken breeds.

- Developed processes for livestock technology and techniques for waste treatment and pollution reduction in livestock production.

2. Veterinary sectors

- Built and developed a system of animal quarantine units to meet the export quarantine requirements of animal products to even the most stringent markets such as the EU, US, Japan, Korea, etc. At the same time ensure strict and safe control of imported animals as well as animal products.

- Built a centralized control of cattle slaughter and quality control of meat consumed in the market in many provinces and cities across the country.

- For animals and animal products for domestic consumption and export, the Department of Animal Health annually implements a program of monitoring veterinary hygiene and food safety.

- In addition, the Department of Animal Health has developed and implemented a program to monitor veterinary hygiene and food safety for chicken and chicken products, suckling pigs and salted duck eggs for export.

- In the management of veterinary drugs, all establishments producing veterinary drugs in the form of pharmaceuticals and vaccines have applied and been granted certificates of good manufacturing practice (GMP) according to principles and regulations. by the World Health Organization (WHO-GMP).

- Many research projects have been carried out and effectively applied, many new vaccines have been put into production, many technologies have been transferred and applied to production.
