NARDT-Laos launching workshop (13 November 2019)

The Network for Agriculture and Rural Development Think-tanks in Mekong Sub-region was launched in the Lao PDR by the National Agriculture and Forestry Research Institute (NAFRI) in Vientiane on 13 November 2019

The meeting was chaired by His Excellency Dr. Chanhsamone Phongoudome, Deputy Director General of National Agriculture and Forestry Research Institute (NAFRI) and co-chaired by His Excellency Mr. Nguyen Thanh Tung, Country Programme Officer of the International Fund for Agriculture Development IFAD’s representative.

Dr. Chanhsamone Phongoudome, Deputy Director General of NAFRI, and Mr. Nguyen Thanh Tung, Country Programme Officer of the IFAD, co-chaired the workshop.

The meeting was attended by 29 people, representing the Government of Lao PDR (GoL), of the Development Partners (DPs) and the Civil Society Organization (CSOs) and the Vietnamese teamwork of NARDT project.

The NARDT project aims to improving the quality and effectiveness of agriculture and rural development policy research, advocacy and implementation in countries of Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, and Vietnam (CLMV). The project is implemented through establishing a network of thinktanks for Agriculture and Rural development in Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia and Myanmar, promoting knowledge sharing, exchanging information, research cooperation, capacity building institutions, and policy dialogues.

NAFRI has been assigned as the lead agency in Laos to coordinate the project implementation Network for Agriculture and Research Think-Tanks for Countries in Mekong Sub-Region (NARDT). This is the first NARDT meeting before the NARDT project will have a diagnosis report updated by the end of December, after the workshop. With the aim of supporting scientific and empirical research, the project will be the basis for development policies in the agricultural and rural development sectors.
