Regional workshop “Agricultural development policy review in Mekong sub-region countries: Vietnam- Laos-Cambodia” – 30th October 2023.

Under the framework of the regional study: "Agricultural development policy review in Mekong sub-region countries" within the regional  project "Network for Agriculture and Rural Development Think-tanks for Countries in Mekong sub-region (NARDT) funded by IFAD, Institute for Policy and Strategy for Agriculture and Rural Development (IPSARD) organized the workshop ““Agricultural development policy review in Mekong sub-region countries: Vietnam- Laos-Cambodia” in person and online.

The workshop is a platform to exchange and share knowledge and experiences and propose recommendations and policy advice in line with the development priorities of the agricultural sector in the Mekong sub-region. The workshop attracted the participation of more than 50 particpants including NARDT network members, donor, partners, researchers and policy makers. At the workshop, the research members of the project shared and evaluated achievements and orientations for agricultural policy development of Lao PDR, Cambodia and Vietnam. Dr Chanhsamone Phongoudome, Deputy Director of Lao National Agriculture and Forestry Research Institute (NAFRI) gave an overview of "Assessment on Agricultural Policies in Lao PDR". Ms. Pirom Khiev from the Cambodia Development Resource Institute (CDRI) presented on "Assessment on Agricultural Extension Policy (AEP) in Cambodia". On the Vietnamese side, Dr. Truong Thi Thu Trang, Deputy Director General of IPSARD gave a talk on "The decade of renovation in Viet Nam's agricultural policy ". After the presentations of member partners, Dr. Dang Kim Son – Senior Expert of the project summarized "Agricultural policies of Mekong sub-region countries – Vietnam – Laos – Cambodia: Lessons learned and Recommendations".

The workshop was highly appreciated by the participants in term of the content and shared experiences of the countries. At the same time, participants expected that there will be more similar workshops within the framework of the NARDT project with the participation of a network of member partners to share lessons from the process of agriculture and rural development of each country.
