New High Yielding Promising Glutinous Rice Line TDK37-B-9-1-3-B

TDK37-B-9-1-3-B was selected from the population of the 37th cross with the same parents of TDK8; crossed between RD10(Female) and TDK1(Male) since year 1996 at  Agricultural Research Center-Naphok. It is the semi-dwarf plant type, photoperiod insensitive variety, with growth duration 95-105 days to flowering; can grown in both wet and irrigated dry seasons. Suitable to the 7 main plains of rice growing areas of the central, southern and some northren provonces such as Luang phrabang, Sayabuly, Namtha and Bokeo. The multilocation test (MTL) and farmer participant in varietal selection in the drought prone areas of central and southern provinces year 2008-2010; across all TDK37-B-9-1-3-B give relative grain yield over mean grain yield of TDK8 and TDK1 by 7%; at Vientiane site by 15%, 5% in Champasack and not difference in Savannakhet. The MTL year 2011 and 2012 in 5 districts of Savannakhet(3) and Champasack(2), TDK37-B-9-1-3-B give similar grain yield with VTE450-2, TSN9 and TDK11; relatively higher than TDK1, TDK8 and TSN3 but not significant difference; and significant difference with Phone PNG1, PNG3 and PNG5. TDK37-B-9-1-3-B is moderate resistance from the damage of rice leaf blast, bacterial leaf blight and good resistance to bakanae diseases. Paddy rice is traw color with long grain shape similar to RD10 as the preference of rice mill groups. High % of milled rice recovery and high % of head rice both wet and irrigated dry season rice, better than TDK1. Good eating quality, cooked rice is soft but non-scented and keep softness after 1 hour of cooking. The weaknesses of TDK37-B-9-1-3-B is susceptible from the damages of rice neck blast disease, brown and green plant hopper, gall midge and stem borer; poor adaptability in acidity soil with Fe toxicity, bent culms in maturity time and lodge when delay of harvesting.
