Agricultural innovation: TOMGOXY shrimp farming model - A breakthrough in modern shrimp farming in Viet Nam

Regional research “Agricultural innovations review in Sub-Mekong region countries” in the framework of the project “Network for Agriculture and Rural Development Think-tanks for Countries in Mekong sub-region” – November 2022 - April 2023.

The TOMGOXY shrimp farming model was researched and developed by RYAN Technologies Vietnam - a start-up company in Tra Vinh province that has completely changed the long-standing traditional shrimp farming process in the Mekong Delta.

The model was developed based on 4 criteria: (1) protecting mangrove forests; (2) effectively utilizing land, water, and energy resources; (3) developing circular farming with combining algae, shrimp and fish raising to reduce production costs and environmental pollution; and (4) using renewable energy to replace energy from fossil fuel sources to achieve zero carbon emissions.

This model brings development opportunities to the shrimp farming industry and solves water pollution and disease problems in shrimp farming. This also allows to create conditions to increase farming density on limited land and water resources. At the same time, this technique can assist to improve productivity and create large production output for processing and export. As a result, Vietnam can become the world's shrimp production and processing center when new technology and technique are widely applied in Aquaculture.
